Meet Bekah

Aloha families!!  My name is Bekah.  I was born and raised (mostly) in Missouri, however my travels have taken me to Michigan, Florida, Oregon, Kansas, and Texas.  I started out, like most young girls, babysitting in middle school…just for neighborhood kids and cousins.  When I moved to Oregon in 1999 I was in charge of our church nursery which was for kids ranging from newborn to 6 years old.  I then moved to Texas for school and was a nanny for a 12 year old there.  During my undergrad I volunteered at Doernbecher Children’s hospital in Portland OR, and had my practicum working with adolescents with developmental disabilities and delays.  After I graduated with my BS in Psychology with an emphasis in child and family services I moved to Germany for a year to figure out what I wanted to do.  I was an Au Pair there for 4 kids from ages 6-14.

I went back to Portland Oregon and worked for two years at the Boys and Girls Club as program assistant and then teen director.  I worked with kids aging from 6-18 years.  I moved to Oahu in 2010 and was a nanny, for a year, for a family with 2 kids here on the island (I attained that through Nannies Hawaii).  I am currently employed as a Tutor for children with autism.  I have several clients ranging in ages from 8-11.  I still keep in touch with most of the kids I have worked with from my babysitting days, to Germany, up through my most recent nanny experience here on the Island.  However, I am excited to work with and meet new families and children.

Working with kids my whole life I am used to being active and running around like crazy (that’s what kids are for).  Being creative and coming up with fun and new games to play is something that I pride myself on doing.  Growing up we didn’t have a lot so my older brother and I always had to come up with new games to play….such as sock-wars and baloony-ball, and of course playing the classics such as freeze-tag and sardines.  I have learned that every creative idea from a child is gold!  There imaginations are beyond anything us adults can come up with and that always makes for a fun time.
